Safety is a Priority: Envidata and PLN Indonesia Power UBP Priok Discuss Safety of Hydrogen Refueling Station
EnvidataID, Jakarta – Indonesia, a country with great renewable energy potential, is actively developing hydrogen energy as an alternative clean energy source. Hydrogen, often referred to as the “fuel of the future”, has the potential to replace fossil fuels in various sectors, from transportation to industry. With the increasing production of green hydrogen, Indonesia is working towards achieving carbon neutrality and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
On February 21, 2024, PT PLN (Persero) simultaneously inaugurated the pilot project of the Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) and the Green Hydrogen Plant (GHP) of the Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant. The inauguration of the HRS and GHP made PLN a pioneer in building an end-to-end hydrogen ecosystem in Indonesia as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel, while supporting the government’s target of achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060.
PT Envidata Inovasi Indonesia (EnvidataID) is one of the companies that also supports the progress of the hydrogen energy ecosystem in Indonesia. Focusing on the HRS security and safety sector, in 2024, EnvidataID was tasked with analyzing the risks that will be caused by this HRS. Given the flammable nature of hydrogen, the security and safety aspects are the main priorities in the design, construction, and operation of HRS. Together with PLN Indonesia Power UBP Priok, EnvidataID represented by Arief Marsudi Harjo, S.Kel, M.Si (Director of Operations) and Dr. Ir. Adrianus Pangaribuan, MT., CFEI (Fire & Explosion Senior Engineer) held a discussion related to HRS safety and security standards. For information, PLN Indonesia Power UBP Priok is a Priok Power Plant Business Unit in North Jakarta that operates 14 generating units, consisting of 8 PLTGU and 6 PLTD, with a total capacity of 1,196.08 MW.
At this meeting, it is expected that the implementation of HRS safety standards will be implemented with comprehensive safety measures and supported by appropriate technology, so that the risks associated with hydrogen can be minimized.
