Envidata Focuses on Climate Change, Coordinates with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry

EnvidataID, Jakarta – PT Envidata Inovasi Indonesia (EnvidataID) accepted the invitation received from the Directorate General of Climate Change Control (DJPPI) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia (KLHKRI) on October 30, 2024. More specifically, this meeting is a coordination and consultation regarding the Economic Value of Carbon and the National Registry System. The coordination between EnvidataID and KLHKRI, especially DJPPI, is key in the development and implementation of environmental policies, especially in the context of climate change. One of the main focuses of this collaboration is on the concept of Economic Value of Carbon (NEK). NEK is an approach that seeks to provide monetary value to environmental benefits, such as carbon sequestration by forests.

EnvidataID, as an institution that has expertise in environmental data and analysis, plays a role in providing the data needed to calculate the NEK. This data includes land cover data, greenhouse gas emissions, and other environmental factors. DJPPI has a very strategic role in formulating policies related to climate change. The results of the NEK analysis produced together with EnvidataID will be the basis for formulating more effective policies.

In addition to NEK, the two institutions are also working together in developing the National Registry System (SRN). SRN is a system used to manage data and information related to climate change mitigation and adaptation actions. KLHKRI through DJPPI has built the National Climate Change Registry System which can be accessed via the link https://srn.menlhk.go.id/.

The National Climate Change Registry System (SRNPI) is a web-based management, data provision and information system on actions and resources for Climate Change Mitigation, Climate Change Adaptation and Carbon Economic Value in Indonesia.

SRNPI Objectives

  • Data collection on climate change adaptation and mitigation actions and resources in Indonesia.
  • Government recognition of the contribution of various parties to climate change control efforts (adaptation, mitigation, funding, technology, capacity building) in Indonesia.
  • Provision of data and information to the public on adaptation and mitigation actions and resources and their achievements.
  • Avoiding double counting of adaptation and mitigation actions and resources as part of implementing the principle of clarity, transparency and understanding (CTU).

The collaboration between EnvidataID and DJPPI is expected to produce more evidence-based and results-oriented policies. In addition, this collaboration can also increase national capacity in environmental data management and open up great opportunities to develop innovative solutions in dealing with climate change.

For information, the Directorate General of Climate Change Control (DJPPI) is one of the work units of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia that handles climate change, especially in the implementation of mitigation, adaptation, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, reduction and elimination of ozone-depleting substances, resource mobilization, greenhouse gas inventory, monitoring, reporting and verification of climate change mitigation actions and control of forest and land fires. With the establishment of DJPPI, it becomes a new hope for the implementation of well-managed climate change control activities in supporting development goals in the environmental and forestry sectors.
