HySafe (International Association for Hydrogen Safety) was founded by the EC-supported Network of Excellence (NoE) on 26 February 2009 as a non-profit organization in Brussels, Belgium. With 17 of the 24 partners, the founding consortium demonstrates a strong commitment to the coordination of sustainable research and a clear interest in supporting the safe introduction of hydrogen as an energy vector. With partners from public research institutions, authorities, universities, standards development organizations, and representatives from automotive and energy companies, HySafe integrates all stakeholders and facilitates communication beyond traditional boundaries. Bringing together research, education and commercial interests will advance innovative solutions in a highly sensitive and important field of energy technology.
As we know, hydrogen has great potential as a clean energy source in the future. However, hydrogen is also a highly flammable and explosive gas if not handled properly. HySafe is a project or initiative that focuses on the safety of handling and using hydrogen. This is where HySafe’s role becomes very important.
HySafe’s main objective
- Developing safety standards: HySafe aims to create stringent and comprehensive safety standards for the entire hydrogen supply chain, from production, storage, transportation, to use.
- Testing technologies: The project also focuses on testing and developing new technologies that could improve the safety of hydrogen handling. For example, developing safer materials for hydrogen storage, or more sensitive leak detection systems.
- Raising awareness: HySafe also plays an important role in raising public and industry awareness about the importance of safety in the use of hydrogen. Thus, the risk of accidents can be minimized.
Why is safety in using hydrogen so important?
- Prevent accidents: High safety standards will prevent accidents that can cause material losses and loss of life.
- Accelerating hydrogen adoption: With the assurance of safety, society and industry will be more confident in using hydrogen as an energy source. This will accelerate the widespread adoption of hydrogen.
- Protecting the environment: Safe use of hydrogen will ensure that this technology truly benefits the environment, without creating additional risks.
EnvidataID supports the use of hydrogen energy
- Future energy: Hydrogen is considered as one of the clean and efficient energy sources of the future, thus attracting the interest of many companies to invest in its development.
- Decarbonization: The use of hydrogen can help reduce significant carbon emissions, in line with global efforts to tackle climate change.
- Energy diversification: Hydrogen can be an alternative energy source that can diversify a company’s energy portfolio, reducing dependence on fossil energy sources.
- Technological innovation: The development of hydrogen technology is driving new innovations in various sectors, such as energy, transportation and industry.
- Competitive advantage: Companies that successfully develop hydrogen technology will have a competitive advantage in the increasingly competitive energy market.
- Huge market potential: Global demand for clean energy continues to increase, opening up huge market opportunities for companies operating in the hydrogen sector.
- Government support: Many governments around the world provide policy support and incentives to encourage the development of hydrogen energy, creating a conducive business environment.
